3 years ago camp Orlando staff was trying to come up with an idea for something to do on the first night. This year 20 schools participated in the fashion show at camp Orlando. They had everybody to work on a lot on how to build yearbooks and who to write them, so they wanted something to do with team building. And they ended up with a bucket contest where they decorated buckets to honor their schools.”it was fun but it was missing something” says Tracy De La Feulliez
All of a sudden Tracy De La Feulliez, the Camp Orlando director, said “ well what if we kept the contest and decorations but instead of buckets we do shirts”.
The camp ended up loving it and now people come and plan months ahead and are absolutely loving the contest.
Taylor Thomas is a second year black shirt and she has attended the camp as a student 2 times. She has participated in the competition every year. ”I’m very excited to see what crazy and creative ideas schools come up with,” Taylor said.
A lot of schools walked the runway with some creative looks whether that was riding a cardboard horse, bart simpson and lisa or a shark.
Malorie Zacarde from oasis high school malorie said that she loved how she got to pretend to be a shark and bite her friend. “We were thinking about shark bite and bait so then we were like, someone be the shark and someone be the bait,” Malorie said. Oasis high school’s mascot is a shark, and camp Orlando is all about school spirit.
Every school’s walk was creative and put lots of teamwork into it. Which is exactly what Evan’s high school wanted.
Makira Patterson from Evans high school said she was so excited to work as a team to accomplish such a good design.”We incorporated old stuff from the regular year book and worked together to draw different things about the school all over the shirt.”
Hagerty High’s staff dressed senior Long Truong as an alpha wolf to match their mascot. Truong was ready to get in character for the event.
“I’m going to strut first, and then I’m going to plan on doing a couple of flexes,” Truong said.
When we interviewed student Long Truong from Hagerty highschool we asked him what they wanted to do for the show and he said, “We want to do something big size wise and very school spirited”.
Something that started out as just drawing on camp shirts with markers has turned into a team building practice for lots of schools to learn.
