Junior Tessa Sevelius, Angeline Academy representative in the Camp Orlando annual fashion show on July 19, strutted down the runway in a long pink skirt and crown, as she titled herself “Pasco Princess”.
The annual fashion show is a competition between all participating schools at Camp Orlando meant to embody school spirit. Each school sends out one representative, decked out in a provided white T-shirt, decorated by the school staff, to model their creation. Schools then vote for their favorite team, based on look, confidence, and overall impression.
Sevelius’ look, constructed by the rest of her editorial team at Angeline, was put together minutes before Sevelius walked down the runway.
“We weren’t exactly sure what we wanted to do for her look, but we used everyone’s ideas and it all came together really well,” Angeline sophomore editor, Eva Livingston said.
Going into her second year doing the show, Sevelius adopted a new approach for this year. She wanted to leave an impact on the audience, and create something memorable and fun, so she strayed from the traditional runway style and tumbled down the catwalk.
“Last year I did the fashion show and I think my performance was kind of boring, but I remember a boy who did a backflip when walking the runway, and that really inspired me to up my game for this year,” Sevelius said.
However, it was not only Sevelius walking down the runway. Rising senior, teammate, and editor in chief of Angeline Academy Yearbook, Angelina Rodriguez, assisted Sevelius to contribute to the performance by tearing off her tablecloth skirt and waving it in the air to reveal the dress made out of the provided white T-shirt.
“We thought a costume change was necessary to show how our school paves its own path and bends the rules to make us stand out from other schools, and it also made the performance really exciting and fun,” Rodriguez said.
Many of the audience members were shocked by Sevelius’ performance, such as Zoey Ellzy, a rising senior at Wiregrass Ranch high school. Ellzy was in the audience snapping photographs during the event, and witnessed the action first hand.
“I didn’t come last year, so I didn’t know what to expect, but her idea was so creative. Watching her rip off the dress and do flips while someone held it behind her was really cool,” Ellzy said.
