One plain, white shirt. 45 minutes of unrestrained creative freedom. The possibilities are endless on the runway.
On July 19, Students at Camp Orlando worked together to craft and decorate shirts to encapsulate their school spirit in hopes of winning the t-shirt contest through models showcasing their work down the main hall.
“My teacher had a bunch of tablecloths, and we didn’t know what to do with it. We were like, ‘Wait, what if we make this into a big skirt?’” Angelica junior Tessa Sevelius said.
Designs ranged from flowy tablecloth dresses to cardboard cowgirls as every school fought to take home the spirit flag. Teams could use whatever creative tools they had at their disposal to create extravagant outfits as unconventional materials were utilized to bring their ideas to life. Time management was crucial during the initial preparation stages of the fashion show as students worked together to construct their outfits, as the stressful time constraint forced quick thinking and innovative fashion.

“We spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to actually make the shirt, we were thinking about making it a vest or doing something else,” J W International High School’s rising junior, Anastasia Yurkina said.
Students embraced the challenge by dividing responsibilities among their teams. While some prepped themselves mentally for the runway and planned designs, others cut fabric, taped together accessories or perhaps painting their teachers heads?
The goal was to transform an ordinary shirt into something memorable. The collaborative environment encouraged every student to contribute, whether through drawing, painting or simply brainstorming new concepts.
As the fashion show began, the energy inside the hallway shifted. Cheers echoed from every corner as schools proudly supported their models. Each entrance brought a new surprise, with dramatic reveals, themed costumes and creative performances adding personality beyond the clothing itself.
For many participants, the competition was about more than earning the spirit flag. It provided an opportunity to bond with classmates they hadn’t seen since the summer started. What started as a plain white shirt became a reflection of each school’s identity and imagination.
By the end of the runway, every design told its own story, proving that with a little creativity and a lot of teamwork, even the simplest materials can become something unforgettable.
